Just tried disconnecting a phone? Help.?

I just tried temporarily disconnecting my exs phone because it's under my name. It's Verizon and I need to figure out a way to make the money to cancel it so I tried suspending it for 90 days. No one is answering Verizon right now and it's too late to go in to the store but I called the phone (my exs) and it goes straight to voicemail. Does that mean it's disconnected? Or not?
